Here are some practical tips on how to get your home decluttered and 7 ways to simplify for Christmas!

  1. Review what you have before you buy new - dig out your bins and go through your decor. Anything you don’t like anymore (our styles change) or perhaps you haven’t put it up the past 2-3 years. Now is the perfect time to purge and donate those items (or trash the ones that are broken). Make sure your decor, gift wrap and ornaments are safe with these great product recommendations!

  2. Declutter toys. As a Professional Organizer I highly recommend purging toys before birthdays and Christmas. Here’s some notes to consider: Have your kids outgrown them? Are they broken? Are they simply just not loved anymore? I always encourage you purge toys with your children. It teaches them how to let go of items plus leaves them feeling joy by donating to those in need

  3. Recycle electronics. You know that old hair straightener that died 3 years ago that’s sitting in your closet? Ya, now is the time to get rid of it! Most people hang onto them with the hopes of recycling them properly. Hanging onto old phones, charging cords or TV remotes…..Did you know that Best Buy recycles most electronics, even hair dryers? It’s a short trip or an added stop when your doing your Christmas shopping

  4. Check your kitchen. The heart of the home is where the magic of gingerbread cookies and homemade cranberry sauce happens - time to consider purging that speciality avocado knife that you never use

  5. Books. If your children are anything like mine they receive a lot of new books for Christmas. I like to take this time to review any books they have outgrown to donate to my local library or community bookstore. Here’s a link to our favourite books that my children love all year round!

  6. Review your alcohol cabinet. You know that really old bottle of Blue Typhoon that you bought to make speciality drinks at the New Years Eve party you hosted 5 years ago? I’m giving you permission to dump that and recycle the bottle!

  7. Old Christmas cards. Okay bare with me I know this is a touchy subject. But please consider recycling old Christmas cards. If you can’t bare with the thought of letting them go my suggestion is to create a coffee table book. Take pictures of the cards front and back than create a beautiful hardcover book that you can take out each year as part of your decor. Costco has wonderful templates and affordable options that you can use to create your own

Create beauty

Pro Tip: Store the card book in with your regular Christmas decor!
